The day before the class, I was doing some research on embroidery and looking at some of Louise Brougeois' Fabric Works, and came across this interview with Joetta. I enjoyed seeing images of her process and reading more about her background, inspirations and technique. I also appreciated her advice for young artists: "Be dedicated. Be committed, Be prepared for very hard work. Develop a tough skin because no matter how much praise you get you will also get criticism and rejection."
Joetta's is smart, knowledgeable and patient. Her class was well-paced and well priced. I left with a sampler of 5-6 stitches that I can now practice and refine. I am excited to see how my work will continue to evolve as I learn new techniques.
You can view more of Joetta's in-process and finished work on her flickr page.
