Thank you to everyone who came out to see my work this summer! I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to show some of my large-scale paintings in the Space, Object & Artifact show at the Nave Gallery in August. I haven't shown my large work since undergrad and it was exciting to see some of my interior spaces hanging up on the gallery's walls. One of my favorite parts of this experience was installing my work with Kate and Caroyln. We began the proposal process knowing that our work shared common themes of home and place. As we installed our work, it was exciting to see the connections between our work strengthen as we found more subtle connections.
We installed Caroyln's photographs of fabric swatches near my painting It's different now I think, I wasn't older yet, and it was interesting to see how the swatches of furniture and wallpaper interacted with the wooden floor, woven rug, and phthalo green walls of my bedroom painting. When I installed some of my New Scraps, I looked to Kate's installation of Sprawl for inspiration. She thought carefully about how where to hang each house so that the colors and sizes of each piece created a balanced composition. The gallery space, with it's wooden trim and wall of windows, created a comfortable homey feel--the perfect backdrop for our work. Thanks to the Nave Gallery for choosing our proposal and supporting our work.
