Seven of my Paper Quilts have been hanging on the bright orange walls at Darwin's for the past year. It's unreal what a whirlwind the past year has been. I installed the work last June, so it's been up for almost a year. I am grateful for the opportunity I've had to show my work at Darwin's and have enjoyed meeting up with friends at their third Thursday wine nights, for delicious sandwiches, to buy picnic supplies or for a cup of coffee late at night. I've also enjoyed receiving surprised texts from friends who have stumbled on my work when visiting the cafe.
The night that I went to the cafe to take down my work, one of the baristas that was working there said, "Wow. It's the end of an era" and smiled. While I'm also a bit melancholy that the work is coming down, I am focused on the fact that endings create space. Sometimes the space creates new opportunities immediately and sometimes the space is slower, providing time to sit quietly and reflect. I am excited to bring the work back home, to look at it with fresh eyes and to submit pieces to new shows; giving them the freedom to live in other places.

February 15 - March 17, 2018
263 Pearl Street, Cambridge, MA 02139 Opening reception: Saturday, February 24th from 7-9pm Gallery 263 is proud to present our first national juried exhibition of 2018, Sanctuary, Juried by Maria Molteni. Sanctuary is a place, a feeling, where harmony, beauty, and stillness are shielded and allowed to flourish. A sanctuary can lift us up and make us feel big. Or, it can shrink us down and show us humility in the face of infinity. We find sanctuary in the presence of awesomeness. It appears up in supportive communities and makes itself known when the impossible becomes reality. Join us in fostering a heartfelt and tender space exploring these themes. November 27-December 23, 2009 263 Pearl Street • Cambridge, MA 02139 Opening Reception: December 5 | 4-6pm I was invited to participate in a group show at Gallery 263 in Cambridge. I initially found out about the gallery on my way to teach an elective art class at the Martin Luther King School. I rode my bike past the gallery twice a week, and one day I saw someone inside! I decided to stop in and say hello. Over the past few years, I and have been humbled by the inclusiveness of the directors and fellow artists that show work here. I feel very fortunate to be welcomed into this wonderful community space. Each artist in the show has been given 4 feet by 6 feet of space to hang their work. Since the space is very tall, but not very wide, I'm using the gallery floor to plan and rearrange the layout of my paintings. I'm going to let this layout breath overnight and come back tomorrow to hang each piece on the wall. The show will feature small works by local artists working in a variety of media, including: printmaking, photography, painting, illustration, and hand-made crafts. I hope to see you at the opening! |
