In This is how it starts we endeavor to explore artistic process, by exhibiting the place where new ideas and energies often emerge – the sketchbook. For some artists, the sketchbook serves as a warm-up to their studio practice; for others, it is a place to record explorations and capture new ideas. For others, there is no sketchbook – but rather, preparatory drawings or painting, written musings, figure sketches. And, there is the digital sketchbook – the iPad.

For nearly 20 years, the Cambridge Art Association has hosted a fall exhibit, open to artists from the New England states, centered around a color--RED or BLUE, depending on the year. Both the success of the exhibit series, and the challenge to participating artists lies in channeling the varied meanings of a color like RED. It is the color of action, violence, heat. It is the color of luck, happiness, passion.
Gallery Hours: Tue.-Sun. 12-6pm

Spaceus is a shared artist studio and community space that currently runs out of a former retail location in Harvard Square. I recently joined the collective as an artist member and am looking forward to participating in Cambridge Open Studios with them this weekend.
On Friday, September 28th from 7-9pm Spaceus will be hosting an opening reception to celebrate the opening of their Harvard Location. Come hang out, shop and kick off Open Studios weekend at the store.
On Saturday and Sunday, September 29th & 30th, I plan to be working at the studio on some small collages and drawings. The store will be open from 12-8pm. Stop by and say hi!
